ELEMENTARY
Stanley found an affinity in the female species at an early age. When most young rascals thought girls were creatures from the blue lagoon, Stanley was trying to win the heart of the prettiest, most popular girl in the entire school – Genevieve Whistle.
~Genevieve Whistle – an exotic, whimsical name wrapped up in an adorable little package.~
Stanley would find himself in a trance during recess watching her swing in that green and yellow plaid jumper, floating through the air grinning with glee as her golden blond pigtails danced in the breeze. All the teachers liked her because she clapped erasers after class and she was the best classroom monitor stickers could buy. All the kids liked Genevieve because she always shared her fruit snacks at lunch to the less fortunate kids who brought dreadful items like carrot sticks and apples in their lunch. But Stanley did not only like Genevieve Whistle, he was in love with Genevieve Whistle – the future Mrs. Louis.
Midway through the school year, after several sessions of lunchroom/recess stalking, Stanley deemed it time to profess his undying, unwavering love. He had used his birthday money to purchase a beautiful, sparkling, no carat green (her favorite color) ring pop for his proposal. During recess, two days prior to Spring Break vacation, Stanley spotted Genevieve a the sandbox making grain-filled towers of what he hoped were the schematics for their future dream estate nestled near Disney World named Stan-evieve Manor.
“Hi, Genevieve,” Stanley bravely stated awed by her princess-like beauty.
“Hi, Stan,” she said engrossed in her construction project. Stanley hated being called 'Stan' but when it drips from the tongues of angels, who can object?
“Genevieve, you are so pretty and kind. Will you be my wife?” Stanley asked with a smile so big his ears curled in from the stretch. He extended his arm presenting the sugary jewelry to his potential bride.
Genevieve looked up at Stanley then her eyes dropped to the treat. She promptly answered, “Okay.”
Stanley jumped with joy, frolicking around the sandbox, screaming, “She said yes! She said yes! Yes! She said yes!”
Breaking his jubilation, Genevieve shouted, “Can I have my candy now?”
~Just like a woman to claim her spoils first~
“Oh. Sure.” Stanley chuckled, embarrassed at the brief oversight.
The next day, Stanley and Genevieve planned a wonderful ceremony filled with vanilla wafer cookies and string cheese accompanied by grape juice for their elite guests. The wedded pair consummated their union by having the best man and maid of honor bury them from head to toe in the sandbox as they held hands during recess.
~Kids and their wacky traditions~
As they returned to class, the new Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Louis walked hand-in-hand while the new bride donned a fresh yellow ring pop.
~She ate the first one, of course.~
Later that afternoon, Stanley walked Genevieve home holding her bookbag and lunch pail. After depositing his prized package that was Genevieve on her doorstep, he raced home blasting through the kitchen door, rambling in a language called Kid-enese, divulging every minute detail of his grand wedding to his mother's eager ears.
When school reopened a week later, Stanley bounced in his seat anticipating the first sight of his vacationed bride. But to his disappointment, the bell rang without Mrs. Genevieve Louis' attendance. Ms. Whittaker, their teacher, made an announcement that the sandbox had been removed from the playground due to a severe ringworm infestation. At lunch, Judy, Genevieve's neighbor handed Stanley a letter penned by his love that read:
Stan you got me sick with worms and I do not want to be married anymore.
Genevieve Whistle not Louis
Stanley felt the breaking of his tiny heart as tears broke from the peaks of his eyes knowing that his love bunny Genevieve had just divorced him.
Genevieve did not return to school for the remainder of the year due to scarring and hair loss from the ravaging effects of ringworm. From that point through the remainder of grade school, Stanley knew his fate was sealed. He was no longer Stanley Louis but Stanley The Worm Boy.
~I hope things turn around for Stanley~
